Vorankündigung / Announcement for next semester

Wintersemester 2018: Seminar "Recent Developments in the Foundations of Quantum Mechanics"

  • Language: English or German as preferred
  • Studiengänge: This seminar is offered primarily for the master's program in mathematical physics but is open to all study programs.
  • Content: To this day, the interpretation of quantum mechanics remains controversial; in recent years, there have been some new mathematical contributions (for example, the Barrett-Pusey-Rudolph theorem in 2012). We will examine how mathematical analysis contributes to philosophical debates about physics.
  • A selection of possible topics:
    • Barrett-Pusey-Rudolph theorem
    • Empirical tests of collapse theories
    • Can one detect whether a wave function has collapsed?
    • Particle absorption at a space-time singularity
    • Quantum dynamics extended beyond a space-time singularity
    • Canonical typicality
  • Prerequisites/Voraussetzungen: Linear Algebra 1, Analysis 1&2 are required; probability theory, quantum mechanics are helpful
  • Literature: will be recommended individually by topic of the presentation.
  • Register/Vorbesprechung: Wednesday July 11, 2018 at 14:15 in room S11 (or email Prof. Tumulka)
