There has been a lot of works on similarities between locally symmetric spaces and moduli spaces of Riemann surfaces. In this talk, I will describe some results on the simplicial volume and spectral theory of the moduli spaces of Riemann surfaces motivated by the corresponding results of locally symmetric spaces
