Dienstag, 02.09.2014: Rigidity of the group topology of automorphism groups of Bruhat-Tits trees

There are certain classes of locally compact groups with the property that there is exactly one locally compact sigma-compact Hausdorff topology compatible with the group operations. Linus Kramer began this line of investigation by proving this for a large class of semisimple Lie groups, and more recently George Willis, Colin Reid, and Pierre Emmanuel-Caprace have obtained a similar topological rigidity result for a large class of totally disconnected locally compact groups. We will outline a proof of such a topological rigidity result for a class of groups that act faithfully on Bruhat-Tits trees.
