Mittwoch, 18.06.2025: (Nested) Hilbert Schemes of Points and Their Irreducible Components

Hilbert schemes of points on smooth n-folds are central objects in algebraic geometry. While they exhibit a rich geometry, they also present a wide range of pathologies. In this talk, I will introduce the key players, outline the main problems in the area, and discuss known results as well as the techniques commonly used to tackle them. I will then focus on our recent results concerning new irreducible components of the Hilbert schemes of points on threefolds, as well as some related results on nested Hilbert schemes. This is joint work in progress with Luca Giovenzana, Michele Graffeo and Paolo Lella.
