Donnerstag, 02.05.2019: How to Quantize an Observable Algebra
Teun van Nuland (Radboud University Nijmegen)
How does one quantize an algebra of classical observables, or
oppositely, how does one obtain a classical limit of a quantum algebra? In
this talk, I will show how C*-algebras allow for rigorous quantization
results. The central example will be the Resolvent Algebra (introduced by
Buchholz and Grundling), a C*-algebra with applications for
non-relativistic field theory and condensed matter. Its classical
counterpart turns out to be very interesting, and has applications of its
own. We will also explore similar algebras that might someday allow for
quantization of Yang-Mills.
