Since July 2024, Aziz Lakhal has been a doctoral researcher within the group on “Mathematical Methods in Computer Science” under the supervision of Stephan Eckstein. He graduated in mathematics from Saarland University. His general research interests center around optimization problems over spaces of probability measures as they naturally arise in generative modelling and causal inference. Special emphasis is placed on the geometric properties of these spaces and how they can be leveraged to design and analyze efficient numerical algorithms. In particular, he currently studies the structure induced by graphical models and compatible gradient flows to develop algorithms aware of causal relationships. The overarching goal is to support empirical research in the design and evaluation of experiments.
