Fachbereich Mathematik

Preparatory Course for M.Sc. Mathematical Physics

The objective of this course is to review the mathematical results that master’s students are expected to know, together with the notions of classical and quantum physics with which they should be familiar.

The course will take place from SEPTEMBER 29 TO OCTOBER 10. It will consist of 11 lectures and 6 exercise sessions (each lasting 2 hours), as well as several social events. You can find the precise schedule at the end.

Both the lectures and exercise sessions will take place in the C building of the Morgenstelle campus (Auf der Morgenstelle 10, 72076 Tübingen), in lecture hall C4H33 on the fourth floor (the glass-walled room).

The lectures will also be streamed online. The meeting link will be published closer to the date.

The course will cover:
1. Elements of algebra
2. Topological, metric and normed spaces
3. Continuity and compactness
4. Differential calculus
5. Implicit and inverse function theorems & submanifolds of R^n
6. Ordinary differential equations
7. Measures and Lebesgue Integration
8. Notions of classical mechanics
9. Hilbert spaces
10. Introduction to quantum mechanics
11. Introduction to Foundations of Physics

Participation in the lectures, exercises, and social events is optional but highly recommended.

At the first meeting (September 29, 10:00), I will clarify any questions about the programme, schedule, and planning. You can also contact me at:
